Notes

John VAUGHAN

An only son John Vaughan (a child). The son John Vaughan became
a Freeman at Portsmouth in1692 which indicates his birth about
1671. It was this John Vaughan son of David who married at
Portsmouth in 1698 where his marriage and births of his
children are recorded. He married Elizabeth Bull. John and
Elizabeth (bull) Vaughan probably settled at North Kingston,
R.I. sometime after the birth of their youngest child John
Vaughan who was born in 1721. They became the founders of a
large branch of the family at North Kingston. Unfortunately,
the records at N. Kingston are badly damaged or destroyed
because of several fires. John Vaughan executed his will in
1743 and it was probated in 1751. The records at N. Kingston
tor the descendants of his 2nd son Isaac and 3rd son George are
not complete because of the fires.
JOHN, son of David and Mary (?) Vaughan, was born about 1671 or
earler, probably at Portsmouth, R.l., which was his father's
home. He died sometime before September 9, 1751, at which time
his will was proved for probate at North Kingstown, R.I. The
records at Portsmouth indicate he lived there until about 1720,
then he moved to North Kingstown. Hc married at Portsmouth, to
Elizabeth, daughter of Isaac and Sarah Parker) Bull of Boston,
on November 24,1698. (Isaac Bull had two wives.) This John
Vaughan could be called the founder of the large branch of the
Vaughn (an) family which come from the North Kingston Vaughan
families. Most of these families were through his son, Isaac,
who stayed in N.K. At a meeting of the free inhabitants of the
Town of Portsmouth on August 22,1692, John Vaughan was admitted
a freeman of the Town. John drew his will in 1743.

admitted a freeman at Portsmouth on June 27, 1670 On October
10, 1674, he was chosen to serve on jury trials. The deed, to
David from the Town Fathers at Portsmouth 1676, indicates he
purchased 35 acres there on this date. He drew his will March
1, 1677-78 and this was proved May 25, 1678. He named his
father and brother John co-executors of his will. He named his
son and his wife as beneficiaries. John his son became founder
of Vaughan family at North Kingstown, R.I. David Vaughan bought
the 35 acres from John Anthony on Nov. 7, 1666. He did not

was his brother John who married her, as proven by deeds under
