Migrated to Chester County PA. in 1724 and thence to Augusta
County VA. in 1732, crossed over the Blue Ridge in 1734, and in
1737 patented 3300 acres of land on Ivy Creek and Mechums River
in Albemarle, founded Mountain Plain and Rockfish Presbyterian
Churches and died in 1762.
With him came five sons and five Daughters born in Ireland or
Pennsylvania (another son born in Va). With him came also the
three sons and daughter of his sister, Elizabeth Woods, who had
married one Peter Wallace, and who, shortly and all at once
married three daughters and one son of his, to preserve the
purity of the clan and because there was no others convenient
to marry.
