There is no marriage for Mary until Absolum Gray, which would
be after the birth of Matilda Pickett, who is identified as
Mary Grays daughter in the Jericho MM minutes. Cane Creek MM
in N.C. minutes show that a Mary Pickett was disowned Oct 6th,
1821 and then recieved by request on april 4th, 1825. Mary
Picketts family was granted a certificate to Indiana, on August
6th, 1825 and Marys father John Pickett died on October 5th,
1825.Ruth Dixon was appointed (9th of May, 1821) to prepare a
testification against Mary Pickett for having a child in an
unmarried state. Ruth is appointed to prpare and testify it at
the next meeting.August 1821 Marys first cousin Joseph Piggot, complained of by
cane creek preparative meeting for being charged by a young
woman with being the father of her child.
Evidently she was Martins first wife. They had two children
but I come through the one child that Martin had with the widow
SPAIN. Her parents were John ROOP and Susan BARTLETT.

Father was born in New Jersey and Mother Penns. In the Vital
Records of Mahaska #0985383 It states on page 143 of her sons
marriage records that her maiden name was Haines. For years
I've found her under her widow name of Spain only.

Checked 1870 Census Mahaska co., Iowas. Could not find.
10/5/1990 Discovered that this individual who I supposed to be
John Smith was instead Edward O. Smith. He is on the 1900
census of Mahaska co. Iowa film #1240446 Pg. 93 just two doors
away from his married daughter Jeanette or Nettie Smith Sheue.
His father and Mother in New York. He is listed as a farmer
who owns his own 167 acres. His wife Sarah and son William APrivate of Captain James A. Seevers company C. 15th Iowa Vol.
Infantry was enlisted to serve three years. He was 29 years
old, five feet five and one half inches high, dark complexion,
blue eyes and dark hair. His occupation at the time was
carpenter.
Name could quite likely be woodside.
